World War II Occupation
(1940-1944)
Germany occupied the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from May 10, 1940 until the liberation on September 10, 1944. During this period, several postal stationery cards of Germany and Luxembourg were specially overprinted for use in the annexed district of Luxemburg.

This card is similar to the previous card but does not have a preprinted Hindenburg stamp. The space where a stamp is to be affixed has text saying Sondermarke zum Tag der Briefmarke 1941 (special stamp for Stamp Day 1941).

These cards were issued in sets of eight. Each card in the set shows a different wartime scene on the left half of the card: mountain artillery, railroad artillery, tanks, infantry, mountain infantry, Schutzstaffel ("SS") officers, seaman, and radio operators. The German slogan on these cards means "Fight for Freedom".

During the World War II occupation, Germany issued five tourism cards in this style relating to the annexed "district" of Luxemburg. (They were part of a much larger set issued to promote awareness of all regions of Germany.) Strictly speaking, they were not issued by local Luxembourg postal authorities, but they make an interesting addition to any Luxembourg postal stationery collection.
